Several of the costume pieces are fairly large, so naturally relatively large boxes are required to pack the costumes safely (especially the Princess crinolines and wings!). A lot of thought and effort was put into designing the packaging for each costume; we did our best to come up with the safest and most cost effective method to ensure that the costumes reach you in perfect condition. Our shipping costs include insurance, a tracking number and signed-for delivery. Your tracking number will be sent to you as soon as your costume ships!

We're more than happy to welcome customers from all over the world. For international shipping (for all countries apart from the UK), please get in touch for a shipping price estimate. The customer will be responsible for any additional customs charges once their costume is shipped. For any additional questions please see our FAQs section.

Each and every box we send is carefully packed especially for you, and great care is taken to ensure that your costume is in perfect condition when it arrives at your door. If you are unhappy with your purchase , please let us know and we will do our best to remedy the situation.

We will be happy to exchange your costume for a different size as long as it is returned unworn in its original condition within 14 days of receipt. We are only able accept exchanges for a different size of the same costume. For example if you originally purchased the Rosette Princess it would not be possible to exchange it for the Ballerina Faerie. However, if the mistake is ours, we will remedy the situation at our expense.

Please notify us beforehand if you would like to exchange your costume and we will email you an exchange form to include with the returned costume. Unfortunately we are unable to accept exchanges without this completed exchange form There is no fee for exchanging your costume, but the customer is responsible for all shipping charges (including both the return shipping and sending out the replacement costume). We highly recommend insurance and tracking as we cannot be responsible for lost packages without them.
Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will the costume be itchy for my child to wear?

A: Every surface that touches skin is lined with soft fabric, because a costume that itches makes everyone grumpy. We also took great care in our choice and placement of tulles, laces and trims with this issue in mind. We even designed the headpieces to be as soft and comfortable as possible. Our test subjects reported no problems with itchiness.

Q: Can I wash my Ella Dynae costume?

A: Ella Dynae costumes are made to be as washable as possible, but tulle can lose starch and flowers can unravel, so hand washing and spot cleaning are recommended. Do not dry clean, and see insert (included with each costume) for washing instructions on specific costumes.

Q: Which size should I order? My daughter is in between or not a standard size.

A: If the primary issue is a fit problem (e.g. a long torso) consider that all of our leotards have extra stretch in the shoulders for a longer torso, and all waistbands, leotards, and bodices are made of 4-way stretch velvet. All crinoline skirts have bow ties at the back which can be used to additionally tighten the waist if that is an issue. If you are looking at length we always recommend you go up since most children grow that direction sooner rather than later.

Q: Can the costumes be made in custom sizes or colors?

A: Yes, however the price will have to be adjusted based on extra material costs and additional time involved in creating a custom size or color. Please contact us if you are interested in this option so we can discuss specific details.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: How long will the costumes fit my child?

A: Obviously much of this answer depends on how fast your child grows and specific body proportions of your child. However a long-term fit was a priority in our design process, and we are proud of the end result.

We tested the costumes on children of varying sizes, and found that they did quite well on about a 3 year age span. On a smaller child the skirts can be worn above the waist to shorten them, and are predictably adorable. If the leotard is a bit baggy, it still works very well. On a larger child, even the full length crinoline skirts look beautiful at a length above the ankles, and the faerie skirts look great at any length.

The leotards have extra stretch in the torso and shoulders which allows for growth while retaining comfort. The Jasmine genie pants can be worn on the waist but most of the older girls in our tests preferred to wear them around the hips. The ankles are banded with stretch velvet so the pants can puff out nicely around the ankles or be stretched out full length without compromising appearance. When you combine these factors the genie pants have about a 6 inch leeway in length fit.

Q: How long will my costume last?

A: This depends largely on how well it is cared for and how much wear and tear it receives. We opted for fabrics that were a bit more durable and paid careful attention to construction techniques, but the costumes are still made out of satin, velvet, lace, bridal tulle, organdy, etc. and should be treated accordingly to prolong the life of the pieces. If you damage a costume piece you can contact us to purchase replacement pieces.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Where are the costumes made and who makes them?

A: All Ella Dynae costumes are handmade to order in the U.S. in the Ella Dynae studio in Oregon, by qualified Ella Dynae staff.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Will the costumes be comfortable to play in?

A: All of our young test subjects and models reported a high level of comfort and willingness to play while wearing the costumes. In fact the only problems arose when trying to persuade the models to stop playing in the costumes once the 'official' testing had been completed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Are the princess skirts heavy or uncomfortable with the steel hoop in the petticoat?

A: Our test subjects certainly did not find them to be heavy or uncomfortable. The plastic coated steel hoop is securely encased in a strong, but soft casing and swings lightly when you walk, which most girls have a very positive reaction to. The crinoline skirts are not meant for climbing or running, but are lightweight and comfortable to wear for princess activities such as dancing and twirling.

A: Several of the costume pieces are fairly large, so naturally relatively large boxes are required to pack the costumes safely (especially the princess crinolines and wings!).
A: If you are ordering a costume for a special event and need it quickly, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate your request. In some cases we may be able to send out your costume within a few days. We appreciate your patience and please be assured that we always do our best to create and ship your costumes as soon as possible!

Q: How long will it take to make my costume?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Are the costumes safe for a young child to play in?

A: All of our costumes are made of fabrics purchased from certified US textile suppliers and much thought was put into the design and construction of each costume to make them as safe and comfortable to wear as possible. With that in mind, we highly recommend adult supervision when the costumes are being worn, as even something as harmless as a satin ribbon has the potential to be misused. All tiaras and jewelry are not recommended for use by young children without adult supervision.

A Few Additional Facts about our Costumes

- Every Ella Dynae waistband is made with active elastic so it will be soft and comfortable without losing its stretch. It is covered in stretch velvet for an elegant and sleek look, since adding extra bulk around the middle is unnecessary at any age.

- Every Ella Dynae leotard stretches both up and down and sideways, designed to fit elegantly and comfortably without gapping or cutting off circulation. Much effort was put into designing a leotard that avoids the common problems we always encountered. We added extra stretch for long torsos and extra coverage in the bum.

-
Our wings are hand painted and decorated with iridescent bridal quality tulle and handmade organza flowers. The wings are attached with stretchy ruffled satin straps which blend into the costumes, since nobody wants their straps showing. The straps are soft but sturdy enough to ensure that the wings sit exactly where wings should.
- Every surface that touches skin is lined with soft fabric, because a costume that itches makes everyone grumpy. We took great care in our choice and placement of tulle, laces and trims with this issue in mind.

- We want you to know that we took great care in selecting our fabrics. All of our leotards are made of high quality stretch velvet, and we used washable embroidered satins and bridal quality tulle. We chose not to use natural fabrics, because although 100% silk sounds great on paper, it doesn’t fare too well when a child tries to play in it. We chose fabrics that strike a balance between elegance and practicality, because we want the costumes look their best wear after wear. After all, who has time to iron a crinoline?

- Some of the Ella Dynae costumes have historical elements in the design. We wanted to give you a heads up that much liberty was taken here, and that was deliberate. A costume that is historically accurate would not only be uncomfortable, it would also be deficient in sparkle and colors that make girls happy. We decided instead to aim for a historical feel where appropriate. The crinolines in the princess skirts are quite real, and we will try to point out any other historical elements that might interest you.

- Ella Dynae accessories are designed to be versatile, so don’t forget to experiment. Garlands are normally worn on heads, but are also quite a lot of fun wrapped around a wrist. Veils can be tied into the ribbon at the back of the waistband to make a train, and skirts can be worn at the waist or just under the bust line for an empire waist look. Ella Dynae accessories are not indestructible, but they are made to live a life of fantasy, and we know that this sometimes requires adaptability.

- Ella Dynae costumes are made to be as washable as possible, but only a few pieces can be thrown in the washing machine. Tulle can lose starch and flowers can unravel, so hand washing and spot cleaning is recommended.
